Airport to Resort Swap

New Year's Eve in the Mountains

Have you ever wanted to do something a bit different for New Year’s Eve? It’s one of the biggest nights of the year and everyone wants to be at the biggest and best party. Sure the UK has some great events, but they usually involve standing around with thousands of other people waiting for a clock to chime 12:00. If you don't fancy that then paying £5 to get into your local pub can be a little hard to stomach too.

How about trying a New Year celebration in the Alps then? French ski resorts certainly know how to throw a good party, and on 31st December they ramp things up even further. Each town does something a little special to see in the New Year – and you could be there celebrating with them.

What could be better than skiing or snowboarding all day and then partying the night away at one of the highest altitude parties you’ll ever be at? If you are lucky enough to be on holiday at this time of year then here are a few details about the various events going on throughout the Alps:

Tignes has the biggest free event in the region with a massive pop-rock party on the snow front in Le Lac. Dance the night away and enjoy a huge fireworks display over the lake at midnight.

Val d’Isere close the roads in the centre of town to vehicles and have a mini-festival of sorts throughout the evening. Attractions for all the family include: an illuminations show, a variety of live music, ice carving and some seriously impressive snow sculptures.

Les Arcs 1950 hold a free outdoor party with DJ, laser show and fireworks at midnight. Possibly the biggest draw though is the free mulled wine that helps keep everyone going until way past midnight.

Val Thorens is well-known for it’s rowdy nightlife and New Year is no exception with all the local bars and nightclubs holding their own parties. If you’re looking for something slightly quieter then there is an impressive torchlight descent by local ski instructors, entertainment for children, and plenty of fireworks at midnight of course.

Courchevel plays host to a lively dance party on the snow front - featuring live music, DJ’s and plenty of fireworks too.

So, if you are lucky enough to be in the Alps at this exciting time of year then be sure to check out what’s going on and have yourself a great time that you’ll never forget!
